Bilateral Meeting Between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Russian Prime Minister During the SCO Summit
Strengthening Pakistan-Russia Relations: Bilateral Talks Focus on Trade, Energy, and Education
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Mr. Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, today at the Prime Minister’s House during the 23rd meeting of the Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Both Prime Ministers discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction regarding the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Russia relations over the past two decades. They agreed to promote strong dialogue and cooperation in the areas of trade, industry, energy, regional connectivity, science, technology, and education.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also mentioned his first visit to Moscow, which marked his inaugural visit to any country. He expressed his desire to transform the memories of his visit into strengthened ties between the two nations. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s wish to expedite bilateral political, economic, and defense negotiations with Russia. Both leaders also agreed to continue cooperation at multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the SCO. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Russian Prime Minister for cooperation regarding Pakistan’s participation in BRICS.
The Prime Minister referred to his fruitful meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Astana this July, during which they agreed to further enhance relations between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of direct flights to promote communication links between Pakistan and Russia.
The Russian Prime Minister praised the excellent arrangements made by Pakistan for the 23rd Heads of Government meeting of the SCO. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and outstanding hospitality extended to the Russian delegation by the government and people of Pakistan. He also conveyed his desire to elevate Pakistan-Russia cooperation to new heights.
During the meeting, both Prime Ministers agreed to further enhance cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. They also agreed to promote educational exchanges in the Russian and Urdu languages and enhance collaboration in the banking sector to facilitate investment and trade.
