NGOs Praised for Their Role in Supporting Government Aid Initiatives
In a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the government of Pakistan discussed the aid being sent to Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon.
“We will not leave the Muslims of Palestine, Gaza, and Lebanon alone in their time of distress,” stated the Prime Minister.
He appealed to the public, alongside governmental efforts, to support their Palestinian brothers and sisters. “The Government of Pakistan has established an aid fund to assist the innocent Palestinians and Lebanese suffering from Zionist oppression and tyranny,” he added.
The Prime Minister urged the Pakistani public, especially wealthy individuals, to generously contribute to this fund. He provided details for donations, stating, “Pakistanis residing both domestically and abroad can contribute to the aid of their Palestinian and Lebanese brothers and sisters through the following account:
IBAN: PK11SBPD0000001111114292
Raast ID: 01111114292.”
The Prime Minister announced that Pakistan would send more tents and blankets for the Muslim brothers and sisters affected by Israeli oppression and aggression in Palestine, Gaza, and Lebanon as winter approaches. “Pakistan will soon send an additional 3,000 tents and 12,000 blankets for the unarmed Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine and Lebanon,” he affirmed.
He directed ambassadors of Pakistan in neighboring countries to report on the required number of tents and blankets.
“The government is also sending food items and medicines for the Muslim brothers and sisters suffering from Israeli oppression,” said the Prime Minister. He condemned Israel’s obstruction of aid to Palestinians as “concerning and condemnable.”
The Prime Minister praised the role of NGOs in supporting government efforts to assist Palestinians and Lebanese. “There should be no compromise on the quality of the aid items sent to Palestine and Lebanon,” he emphasized, ensuring that the tents sent are fireproof.
The Prime Minister called on Pakistani ambassadors in neighboring countries to play an effective role in ensuring the swift and secure delivery of the items sent by Pakistan.
“The escalating Israeli aggression is engulfing the entire region,” he remarked, urging global powers to immediately stop the genocide of innocent people by Israel. He noted that history shows that the silence of global powers on such conflicts was a significant cause of the world wars in the twentieth century.
The meeting was held in Islamabad today, focusing on the aid being sent by Pakistan to Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon.
During the meeting, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated the Prime Minister on the routes for aid delivery, means of transportation, and details of the items being sent. It was reported that since October 8, 2023, 12 cargoes of aid have been sent to Palestine and Lebanon. These cargoes included six charter flights, three special flights of the Pakistan Air Force, and three shipments sent by sea. The items sent included 3,145 tents, 12,625 blankets, as well as food items, powdered milk, and medicines. An additional 3,000 tents and 12,000 blankets are scheduled to be sent on the next three flights. The Prime Minister was also informed about the details of the items being sent by NGOs.
The meeting was informed that the first group of Palestinian medical students has arrived in Lahore, while the second group reached Islamabad recently. The Prime Minister instructed that arrangements be made to ensure the education of students from other fields at Pakistani universities alongside medical students.
He directed that the number of aid items be increased, especially fireproof tents and blankets to protect against the cold, and stressed that there should be no compromise on the quality of the items being sent.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahmed Khan Cheema, Ataullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Chairman of the NDMA, and relevant senior officials.
