Jamea Kashmir Aur Almi Ranking 2025
A social media post by Professor Dr. Imtiaz Awan caught my attention, stating that the leading university of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, has once again demonstrated excellent performance in the global university ranking for 2025. According to the global rankings, Kashmir University is at the forefront of universities in the country while successfully maintaining the first position among the universities of Azad Kashmir.
This is indeed very encouraging news. Kashmir University is a face of the Kashmir region. On this joyful occasion, I extend my congratulations to Professor Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Murtaza Qureshi, Registrar, Professor Dr. Saadat Hussain Dar, Director QEC, Dr. Shahida Khaliq, Deputy Director QEC, our esteemed teacher Professor Dr. Nadeem Haider Bukhari, Professor Dr. Wajid Aziz Lone, all the Deans, principal officers, all the faculty members, and the administrative staff who played a role in this remarkable success.
I would also like to express my gratitude through the media to the leadership of Azad Kashmir, including Mr. Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, Prime Minister, Mr. Latif Akbar, Acting President of the State, Mr. Minister of Education, and all the authorities who financially supported Kashmir University. This is a significant historical achievement of Mr. Anwar ul Haq, which will undoubtedly serve as a milestone in brightening the future of thousands of students, as the uproar on social media suggesting that Kashmir’s universities might shut down has forced many parents to enroll their children in universities in Pakistan, even though millions of students’ futures are linked to this institution.
Nations that progress are those whose institutions are strong, and a university is the soft face of the state; thus, its strength is a pressing need of the time. It has been almost eight years since my connection with Kashmir University was severed; I do not even know those individuals, nor have I ever met them, yet the things I learn through social media are noteworthy.
We salute the president of the university employees’ organization, Ms. Nazneen Habib, who, as a woman, has played an exemplary role in strengthening the institution. All members of the administrative organization also deserve congratulations. This institution belongs to all of us; it is the identity of the Kashmir region.
The high standard of education undoubtedly directly impacts the prosperity and peace of society. In this rapidly developing and changing world, the importance of educational institutions that provide training is greater than ever. The purpose of education is to train individuals to be more positive and beneficial to society, and to provide them with the opportunity to determine their own future.
Kashmir University is an exemplary institution. Many research papers by its faculty members have been published, and several students have won awards not only in Pakistan but also globally. Kashmir University is the institution where its faculty members have made a name for themselves in the research world; columns by Professor Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman are also worth reading.
The administrative staff of the university is not behind; they are playing a crucial role in enhancing the university’s reputation. Notable among them is Mr. Sardar Zafar Iqbal, whose speeches as a stage secretary and reformative columns are exemplary. Additionally, Mr. Syed Mubashir Naqvi, Public Relations Officer, who is honored to be a highly educated and professional journalist, and Abid Zameer Hashmi, whose book “Maqsad-e-Hayat” (Purpose of Life) has been commented on vibrantly by personalities like Mr. Qasim Shah. Moreover, several other universities, including the international-standard Allama Iqbal University, have included it on their websites for the convenience of their research students. He has also received a national award from Pakistan for this book. Such notable individuals are also part of Kashmir University. All these faculty members and staff contribute to the good name of the Kashmir region and the university.
There are many such individuals who are part of Kashmir University. If the administrative staff performs so well, how can Kashmir University’s standards be encapsulated in a column? The universities are an asset to Kashmir.
Universities cultivate minds that manage national affairs, contribute new inventions, provide new perspectives, laws, and administrative skills. It is the universities’ job to present new or alternative solutions to social problems through research in fields like engineering, medicine, IT, philosophy, law, sociology, regional cultures, and political systems. While our universities have seemingly failed to deliver revolutionary results in all these areas, if you look at Kashmir University, a ray of hope shines through.
If the increasing universities in Azad Kashmir have so far failed to show any significant performance, in our opinion, among various reasons, the biggest one is our substandard education system. To speak of government schools is to mention the exception of a few private schools; the remaining private schools produce students who are not capable of proving themselves as university-level students.
These same students then fulfill the duty of teaching in universities and colleges after graduation. Their long-standing weaknesses inevitably affect their teaching quality. This is why, over the past few decades, our colleges have evolved into something developed, while universities have taken on the extended form of colleges. Ethnic and regional factors have also started to play a role behind the establishment of universities. Instead of increasing the number of universities in Azad Kashmir, we should support the ones that exist to ensure that the quality of education is not compromised.
