Bob Woodward Ki Nayi Kitab War

Bob Woodward is a prominent American journalist and the author of several books. He has won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for journalistic writing twice in the United States. Woodward is best known for his role in uncovering the famous Watergate scandal. He, along with another journalist, filed the scandal for the well-known American newspaper *The Washington Post*. Throughout the coverage, he did not reveal the identity of his White House insider source, whom he referred to as “Deep Throat.” It was only much later, after the source’s death, that Woodward disclosed his identity and wrote a book on the subject.

Another aspect of Woodward’s fame is his books about various American presidents. Many presidents granted him hours of interviews with White House staff and their teams, which formed the basis of Woodward’s books. He has written about the eras of Presidents Ford and Reagan, as well as authored books like *Plan of Attack* on Bush Sr.’s Gulf War, *The Agenda* on Clinton, *Bush at War*, and *Obama’s Wars*. His book containing tapes of conversations with President Trump also made waves, leading Trump to file a lawsuit against him.

Woodward’s latest book, *War*, covers the Biden administration, with particular focus on the Ukraine war and the Gaza crisis. However, he also makes some intriguing revelations about Trump. The book includes two claims that have stirred American politics. The first claim is that President Trump secretly sent COVID-19 testing kits to Russian President Putin when he was infected with the virus. This was allegedly kept confidential on Putin’s advice. The second claim is that Trump continued to have phone conversations with Putin even after leaving the White House, which is said to be based on a close associate of Trump’s. This is significant, given that Trump’s opponents have long raised questions about his relationship with the Russian president, and the timing of this book, just twenty days before the U.S. presidential election, adds an interesting dimension. It is likely to harm Trump’s standing. Trump and his team have not only denied Woodward’s accusations but also used disparaging language against him.

Regarding President Biden, Woodward notes that while Biden did not publicly speak harshly against others, in private he did express strong views about some world leaders, including Trump and Putin. He called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “bad man” during a private conversation in the spring of 2024, amid Israel’s Gaza war.

When Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on July 21, he immediately endorsed Vice President Harris, aiming to solidify Democratic support and avoid a contentious party battle. Secretary of State Blinken told Woodward, “In my opinion, it reflects how disappointed Biden was when he did not receive Obama’s support in 2016 as vice president. It felt like a normal thing, you know.”

The book also discusses Trump’s conversation with Netanyahu, in which Netanyahu urged U.S. military action against Iran. Trump said he had to disappoint Netanyahu at that time by refusing to attack Iran’s nuclear program, despite having done much for Israel, such as moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The final sections of the book cover the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, with Trump claiming he had reached an agreement with the Taliban.

Trump asserted that had he been president, the withdrawal would have been much better managed. He frequently criticized the media, often claiming that it maintained a biased stance against him, with outlets like *CNN* and *The New York Times* being particular targets. While Biden also had reservations about the media, his approach was not as aggressive as Trump’s.

Trump also spoke about his relations with China, calling President Xi Jinping a “formidable rival” and noting that the trade war initiated during his administration was aimed at protecting American interests. He claimed that his tough policies had dealt an economic blow to China.

Biden’s approach toward China was more complex, but he too struggled to de-escalate tensions with the country. He viewed China as a significant challenge to the U.S., particularly in the fields of technology, trade, and national security. Biden sought to confront China alongside allies, though his policies sometimes faced difficulties balancing U.S. business interests with national security.

Woodward’s book also addresses the COVID-19 pandemic, with Trump stating that he was in favor of strict measures to contain the virus while holding China responsible for its spread. He defended his administration’s policies during the pandemic, despite facing intense criticism.

Biden had promised to tackle the pandemic during his campaign, and after taking office, he accelerated the vaccine rollout and encouraged Americans to take protective measures. Nonetheless, he too faced public frustration regarding the economic impact of the pandemic.

Trump also took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris, labeling her performance as “disappointing” and questioning her suitability for the role. He alleged that Harris’s responsibilities within the Biden administration were unclear, and she was not proving to be particularly effective.
