Prime Minister Chairs Key Meeting on Combating Human Trafficking
Human trafficking tarnishes Pakistan’s reputation globally, says the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister directed relevant institutions to enhance coordination to curb human trafficking. He also instructed authorities to identify FIA personnel involved in facilitating human traffickers and take strict action against them.
Referring to the 2023 boat tragedy, the Prime Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of action against those responsible, emphasizing that strict measures would be taken against the officers at fault.
The Prime Minister further instructed that the ongoing investigations into human trafficking be completed promptly, with concrete recommendations presented for effective prevention.
The meeting was briefed on measures taken to prevent human trafficking and the Greece boat tragedy.
The briefing revealed that the identities of five Pakistani victims of the Greece boat tragedy have been confirmed, while the identification process for others is ongoing.
The Pakistani embassy in Athens is in constant contact with Greek authorities regarding the boat tragedy, the briefing added.

The briefing also highlighted that most victims of human traffickers come from the districts of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin.
It was noted that legislation to prevent human trafficking is being further improved.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, and senior government officials. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Greece also participated via video link.
