This is Injustice

If only Mian Nawaz Sharif had read the story of Akbar the Great and Prince Salim, perhaps today’s situation would have been different. The Crown Prince Muhammad Salim revolted against his father in 1599. In this issue, Akbar the Great was right, and Jahangir was wrong. They clashed, and in the end, the revolt was defeated, and the state prevailed. After the battle, Prince Salim presented himself at Akbar’s court. The king descended from his throne to welcome him and forgave him.

Akbar the Great was stubborn and strictly adhered to the law. The prince did not expect forgiveness; he was astonished and asked the king the reason for such generosity. The king replied, “Your rebellion was not your fault; it was my mistake.” The prince listened quietly as the king continued, “I am the emperor of India; I should not have let misunderstandings between us escalate to rebellion. Therefore, I hold myself responsible for the deteriorating situation.”

“I paid a heavy price for this responsibility; I lost a friend like Abul Fazl. I wish someone would take the throne of India from me and return Abul Fazl to me.” Mian Nawaz Sharif made the same mistake; he allowed the situation to reach a “point of no return.” Chaudhry Nisar had promised Army Chief General Raheel Sharif that General Pervez Musharraf would not be handcuffed.

When Chaudhry Nisar conveyed this message to Mian Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister replied, “We have decided to handcuff him.” Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar tried to stop him, but General Pervez Musharraf was handcuffed, leading to a handcuff between Nawaz Sharif and the establishment that has not yet been unlocked.

What need did you have to go to such lengths? The IB tapped the phones of the JIT members, and the Prime Minister told the army’s high command based on those tapes, “I am your supreme commander. While you are here, a conspiracy is being hatched against me. You need to stop these people.” What necessity was there for you to say and do this?

Every summary and file from the Prime Minister’s House was held up, and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also kept the files on his desk. Generals called the Finance Secretary daily, and the Secretary would respond every time, “The sir is waiting.” What need was there for you to do this?

What necessity was there for the Prime Minister to gather opponents of the army around him?

Whether it was General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, General Raheel Sharif, or General Qamar Javed Bajwa, all three were proponents of democracy. What need was there for you to confront them? You could have quietly worked and performed. The authority you started to obtain in 2014 would have come to you by itself in 2019 or 2020. You could have truly become Tayyip Erdoğan. Therefore, I sincerely hold Mian Nawaz Sharif responsible for the current situation; he has jeopardized his government, his party, his family, and his country.

If he hadn’t led the situation to this point, today the lion wouldn’t be seeking its identity in every street, and the Pakistan Muslim League-N wouldn’t be rescuing its MPA Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. They wouldn’t be asking each other, “Is there any forward bloc forming in the party?” But whatever was to happen has happened; it has become part of the past, and it is said about the past that even nature cannot change it.

This was one aspect of Mian Nawaz Sharif’s personality; now, observe another aspect. Mian Nawaz Sharif came to Pakistan on July 13, leaving his wife in a coma, and was taken directly to Adiala Jail. It was decided to handcuff him, like General Pervez Musharraf, but Army Chief General Bajwa intervened. Upon reaching jail, Marium Nawaz and Mian Nawaz Sharif were separated.

Mariam Nawaz was confined in the vocational institute hall of the jail, where she was provided a cot and a mattress, while Mian Nawaz Sharif was brought to a C-class barrack. There was no cot in the barrack; he had to lie down on the floor with a mattress. The fan was old and far away, and the bathroom was outside the barrack. Mian Nawaz Sharif asked for a prayer mat, the direction of Qibla, and the Quran, prayed, and then lay down on the floor. This treatment was extremely hard for Mian Nawaz Sharif, as he was not accustomed to such treatment.

On the night of July 13, he sweated heavily. On July 14, doctors examined him. He is a patient of blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol, and he had already undergone bypass surgery and had two stents placed. His uric acid levels were high. The doctors advised shifting him to a better place, and the staff transferred him to B-class. There, he was provided with a cot, a mattress, a plastic chair, and a table, along with a bathroom, but the bathroom was dirty, and the mattress was foul-smelling. The room had only a fan, and the food was from the jail, as was the water. Mian Nawaz Sharif did not drink water, and the atmosphere was suffocating. He was also a heart patient, so he became dehydrated.

The jail doctor examined him and found that his uric acid and creatinine levels were extremely high. General Azhar Kayani and Dr. Hamid Sharif were called, and both declared his condition concerning. They believed the patient’s kidneys could fail at any moment.

The doctors advised shifting him to the hospital and giving him drips, but the jail authorities did not act on this advice for 12 hours. I found out on the evening of July 22. I contacted the jail staff and Doctor General Azhar Kayani for confirmation, but both were reluctant to explain the situation. I had Mian Nawaz Sharif’s blood report and the doctors’ advice, so after half an hour of denial, they admitted the truth.

We broke the news on Express News; initially, it was declared false, but later the government, jail authorities, and General Azhar Kayani confirmed it. However, the government did not want to transfer Nawaz Sharif to the hospital before July 25. A medical board of five doctors from PIMS was formed, and this board visited the jail on July 23. Mian Nawaz Sharif refused to shift from jail and take medication without the permission of his personal physician, Dr. Adnan Khan, who has been his doctor for 20 years and is associated with Sharif Medical Complex.

Dr. Adnan was called, and he confirmed that both of his kidneys had stones, and both sweating and tension were dangerous for him. With Dr. Adnan’s advice, the medications were changed. The elections took place on July 25, and Mian Nawaz Sharif’s condition continued to deteriorate until he suffered a heart attack on July 29. The doctors were called in an emergency; Nawaz Sharif was conscious, eating and drinking, but his ECG was also abnormal, and the Troponin I test was 54.3, which is normally 32. The doctors found left bundle branch block (LBBB) as well and recommended that he be shifted to CCU immediately. Mian Nawaz Sharif refused to go to the hospital.

PIMS doctor Naeem Malik tried all day to convince him to go to the hospital, but he refused. Finally, Marium Nawaz and Captain Safdar were brought to his cell. He still refused. Dr. Adnan was also called from Lahore, and he managed to convince him, thus he was shifted to PIMS at 8:30 PM on July 29. The administration allowed Dr. Adnan to visit him, and Mian Nawaz Sharif’s treatment is now being conducted under the supervision of his personal physician. His medications were changed, and he is also being given blood-thinning injections, but his condition is not improving. The doctors believe that if his blood does not thin or if he suffers another heart attack under these circumstances, it could be life-threatening.

Marium Nawaz and Captain Safdar are also not in good condition in jail. Captain Safdar had undergone stomach surgery last year to lose weight, leaving him with only half a stomach and stitches in his feeding tube, making it difficult for him to eat. His weight is rapidly decreasing, while regarding Marium Nawaz, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N told me, “I have never seen a woman as high-profile as her. I met her in London on July 12 and then saw her in jail on July 19.

In just one week, she has withered away. On July 19, I saw with my own eyes that Mian Nawaz Sharif’s entire shirt was soaked in sweat. Marium Nawaz’s 13-year-old daughter was with us, and she clung to her mother, crying. Tears welled up in all our eyes.” Hearing this account, I repented and sought forgiveness for my sins from Allah. I truly believe that while Mian Nawaz Sharif has made mistakes, he does not deserve this treatment; he is being subjected to injustice. Imran Khan has already won the elections, and the goal has been achieved, so Mian Nawaz Sharif should be allowed to go home.
