Lord Paul Boateng Leads UK Education Delegation to Meet Sindh Officials on Teacher Training and Exchange Programs

A delegation of representatives from various educational institutions in the UK, led by Lord Paul Boateng, a member of the British House of Lords, visited the Sindh Assembly. The delegation met with Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, and Sindh’s Minister of Education, Syed Sardar Ali Shah.

The delegation included prominent figures such as University of London Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Thomson, Queen Mary University of London’s Professor Richard Grose, University of Greenwich Chief Operating Officer Pete Taylor, University of Surrey Vice-Chancellor Paul Townsend, along with Dr. Tony Degazon, Director of City & Guilds, and Dr. Amir Saadati, Executive Director of GEMS Education Network.

Also present at the meeting were Abbas Baloch, Secretary Universities and Boards, Ghulam Muhammad Farooq Buriro, Secretary Sindh Assembly, and other senior officials.

Discussions focused on key areas such as teacher training, technical and vocational education, and student exchange programs. The meeting was held in collaboration with GEMS Middle East and explored the creation of educational opportunities through joint efforts.

The British delegation expressed their willingness to assist in aligning education in Sindh with modern standards. Speaker Awais Qadir Shah thanked the delegation, stating that this partnership would not only enhance the quality of education in Sindh but also provide students and teachers with international exposure and opportunities.

He further emphasized that these efforts would help create better employment opportunities for the youth of Sindh, which is crucial for the province’s economic growth.

Provincial Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah discussed various models for modern teacher training. He proposed that Sindh’s Teachers Training Institutes could benefit from international exchange models, allowing students short-term study opportunities at universities in the UK.

Lord Paul Boateng, during the visit, praised Quaid-e-Azam’s democratic vision and mentioned how he believed in empowering the common people, stating that solutions to local problems often lie with the people themselves.

The meeting concluded with agreements on teacher training, technical and vocational education, local employment needs, and creating international opportunities for Sindh’s youth. Speaker Awais Qadir Shah presented commemorative shields to the guests, while Minister Sardar Ali Shah gave cultural gifts to the delegation.
